March Home Checklist

Don't forget to "spring clean" your kitchen!

Springtime is just around the corner (the first official day is March 19!), and Houzz has created a comprehensive list of simple chores and projects that can be done this month for a smooth transition into spring.

Your March checklist:

-Make mirrors and table lamps shine

Cleaning these surfaces will help to enhance light, as well as the freshness, throughout your home.

-Refresh the entryway

Weather permitting, begin to put away mittens and wool hats, as well as other bulky winter wear, to make room for springtime rain boots. Clean or replace the doormat, clear off hooks, and get an umbrella ready by the door, just in case!

-Remove winter layers

Now is the time to think about swapping out heavy winter bedding for more lightweight quilts and blankets.

-Clean up patio furniture

Outdoor furniture can get awfully grimy throughout the winter, so give yours a good scrub before you begin using it this spring.

-Tune-up lawn and garden tools

Take your lawnmower and clippers in to be sharpened and tuned up.

-Clean slipcovers and soft furnishings

A lot of smaller slipcovers and soft furnishings can be laundered at home, however, larger pieces may need to be taken to the professionals.

-Dust high corners and baseboards

Be sure to pay extra attention to the spots that may get missed during routine cleaning!

-Make a garden plan

Write down your goals and plans for your garden this year in order to figure out what materials and supplies you will yu need.

-Get ready for tax time

The tax deadline isn’t until mid-April, but getting things sorted this month will save you a lot of grief!

-Simplify the table

Consider a living centerpiece for your table, for example, a potted succulent. Get rid of mismatched or chipped dishes and glassware.

-Streamline meal planning

Collect your favorite recipes in a binder and come up with some meal plans for when life gets stressful!

-Spring-clean the kitchen

When cleaning your kitchen, pay special attention to the areas that are often missed during tidying up.

-Treat yourself to spring blooms

Keep an eye out for bargains on in-season flowers and plants.

-Plant a tree

Spring and fall are the best times to plant new trees! Check with a local nursery to learn about which species will thrive in your location and to get some extra tips and tricks.

-Inspect your home’s exterior for winter damage and make repairs as needed

Carefully inspect the exterior of your home to check for damage caused during the colder months. Additionally, damage can be done to your roof as a result of an ice dam.
