Simple Things to do Now to Have a Great Lawn This Spring!

Believe it or not, autumn is a crucial time when it comes to lawn care. What you do (or don’t do) to your lawn this season can go on to have a big impact on it come spring. Follow these steps from our friends at Houselogic and you’ll be on your way to a gorgeous lawn!

  • Aerate

Aeration gives your lawn a chance to breathe and provides room for your grass to spread. This step allows water, oxygen, and nutrients to reach the roots and gives the seeds room to sprout.

  • Seed

The soil temperature in autumn, around 55 degrees, creates the perfect environment to plant grass seeds! Roots grow vigorously in autumn and winter. Water the grass seeds every day for 10-20 days until it sprouts.

  • Fertilize

Late fall fertilization will help your lawn survive a harsh winter and will encourage it to grow lush and green come spring.

  • Mulch

Rather than raking leaves, consider running them over a couple of times with your lawnmower to turn it into mulch. These shredded leaves will help to protect your lawn from winter wind and desiccation, and will also provide nutrients to feed grass roots.
