Now that spring has sprung, it’s the perfect time for some spring cleaning! Check out these often overlooked spring cleaning tasks to keep your home looking its best this season.
- Clean and inspect your vacuum
A clogged or dirty vacuum isn’t going to help much in your quest for a cleaner home. For optimal use, change the bag or wash out a bagless container; wipe down the entire vacuum; pull debris from the bottom bristles and clean the underside as best you can; change the filter; and inspect the hose for holes. - Clean the undersides of surfaces
The bottoms of counters and undersides of tables have the habit of getting pretty sticky and dirty. - Dispose of dried-out paints, adhesives, etc.
Be sure to check with the city or county to know where/how to safely dispose of these materials. - Ditch outdated pantry staples
Staples like flour and vinegar that are past their expiration date lose flavor, and things that contain oil can go rancid. - Clean the crevices of kitchen appliances
Even if you wipe down appliances daily, crumbs and gunk can get caught in tiny nooks and crannies. A combo of baking soda, soapy water, and an old toothbrush can work wonders! - Give houseplants a shower, and clean the spots where they live
Consider taking your (moveable) houseplants outside on a drizzly spring day. With the plants outside it gives you a good opportunity to clean the spots where they live. - Sanitize trash cans
You can easily sanitize a trash can with a mix of bleach and soap. Just be sure to wear gloves! - Disinfect light switches and door knobs
Light switches and door knobs are constantly touched and rarely cleaned, making them some of the germiest spots in the home. - Wash grocery totes
Reusable grocery totes can easily be thrown in the washing machine, or washed by hand with hot, soapy water.
